Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain physical and electronic case files in accordance with office procedures
- Communicate with attorneys, law enforcement, victims, and witnesses
- Track deadlines, court settings, and plea due dates
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness lists
- Accurately enter and update data in the case management system
- Schedule meetings, prepare correspondence, and handle general clerical duties
- Operate standard office equipment and adhere to confidentiality standards
- Perform other duties as assigned to support prosecutorial functions
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least one year of clerical, legal assistant, or administrative support experience
- Strong grammar, typing, and proofreading skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Ability to follow legal procedures and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities
- Must pass a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program
- Experience in a prosecutor’s office, law firm, or legal services agency
- Familiarity with legal terminology and criminal case workflow
- Prior use of legal case management or court e-filing systems
Salary Information:
Pay Range: $18–$26 per hour (Depending on Qualifications)
This position is classified as Non-Exempt under FLSA and is a full-time, in-office role with office hours from Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The role is situated within the department of the organization, focusing on supporting prosecutors in the preparation and management of criminal cases, requiring a high level of organization, professionalism, and discretion.
