Job Title: Senior Paralegal - Settlements
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Paralegal will play a pivotal role in leading fire settlement teams within the law firm. This fast-paced position supports a team of attorneys engaged in litigation across state and federal courts, particularly in the post-settlement phase. Key responsibilities include:
- Regular communication with clients and taking the lead in addressing client issues.
- Providing support and mentorship to case assistants and paralegals, particularly regarding legal questions and processes.
- Drafting, reviewing, finalizing, filing, and serving settlement agreements, requests for dismissals, and minor's compromises in multiple jurisdictions across California, Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Texas, and Hawaii.
- Drafting, reviewing, finalizing, and tracking settlement disbursement agreements post-settlement.
- Conducting quality control audits of team work products.
- Identifying, tracking, and managing case-related deadlines using an electronic calendaring system.
- Supporting internal litigation and damages teams as needed.
- Building and maintaining working relationships with defense counsel and regularly meeting regarding approaching deadlines.
- Uploading and updating client information in a case management database.
- Drafting legal documents, correspondence, and court forms with minimal oversight and great attention to detail.
- Staying informed about rules of civil procedure in both state and federal courts, including CM/ECF filing/Pacer, and arranging for service of pleadings and subpoenas.
- Managing electronic information and document management.
- Creating and utilizing document generation templates.
- Ensuring the law firm's compliance with local rules of professional responsibility, especially regarding the timing of notifying clients of fund receipt and timely distribution.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a paralegal certificate or meet the Business & Professions Code § 6450 requirements. The role requires:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in working up cases and performing paralegal-level tasks.
- Experience with case management software programs, preferably FileVine.
- Proficiency in Adobe, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with E-Discovery and legal programs such as Sharefile, PACER, CaseAnywhere, Lexis, Smart Advocate, Everlaw, FileVine, and OneLegal.
- The candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, a team player, reliable, and capable of multitasking and managing several time-critical projects under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
Salary Information:
The salary for this position ranges from to per hour. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, and qualifications for the role.
