Job Title: Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities: The Staff Attorney will assist their assigned Justice with legal research, analysis, and writing. The role involves performing highly complex legal research, analysis, and writing tasks. Staff Attorneys may supervise the work of others and operate under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for using initiative and independent judgment. Key duties include:
- Researching and writing memoranda on appeals and/or original proceedings.
- Participating in case conferences.
- Making recommendations on motions.
- Performing routine administrative duties as required.
- Performing any related work as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings.
- Must have skill in legal research, writing, and analysis.
- Proficiency in computer and word-processing skills is required.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Must have graduated from an accredited law school with a . degree.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
- Must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong preference for candidates with outstanding academic records.
- Demonstrated writing ability is highly valued.
- Experience with law review or journal is preferred.
- Moot court or mock trial experience is advantageous.
- Prior work for an appellate court or other appellate experience is preferred.
Salary Information: The salary for the Staff Attorney position ranges from $110,000 to $131,460 per year, depending on qualifications.

- The position is open until filled, with an estimated start date of April 2025.
- The job location is at the Corpus Christi or Edinburg office of the Thirteenth District Court of Appeals.
