Legal Secretary The candidate will maintain calendars, schedule meetings, and arrange conference/teleconference calls. Answer telephone calls and route to appropriate individual. Handle incoming and outgoing mail. Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, depositions, and/or hearings. Open new case files and prepare initial correspondence to insurance carriers for attorney review. Request medical records/bills, lost wage documentation, police reports, and other necessary materials supporting a personal injury claim. Prepare initial drafts of correspondence and various court pleadings for attorney review and editing. Process claims for Personal Injury Protection ( PIP ) benefits for injured clients. Organize supporting documentation for inclusion in demand packages to be sent to insurance carriers. Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, and medical providers regarding case status. Manage, with attorney guidance and supervision, disbursement of funds from resolved cases, including resolution of governmental, health insurance, and/or private liens. High school diploma or equivalent work experience is required. Some college is preferred. Should have 5-7 years of legal secretary/legal assistant experience in a law firm supporting multiple professionals, preferably in the area of personal injury. Must have the ability to organize and manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with supervising attorneys. Should have the ability to prioritize workload and work efficiently in order to assist attorneys in meeting strict deadlines. Must have the ability to write clearly and proofread documents. Strong attention to detail is needed. Pleasant telephone demeanor is needed. Professional, proactive, team player is needed. Must maintain the confidentiality of client confidences, including medical information. Must possess the highest degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with clients and fellow employees. Spanish language proficiency is preferred. Proficiency with e-filing in state and federal courts are needed. Familiarity with all aspects of the auto insurance claim process, including property damage, liability, and personal injury protection ( PIP ) claims, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Familiarity with DC/MD/VA court rules regarding pleadings, pre-trial matters, deadlines, and filing requirements is a plus. Familiarity with healthcare liens, including, but not limited to, Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance, and/or Assignments and Authorizations. Familiarity with QuickBooks is a plus. Experience with management of a small (2-5 attorney) law office is a plus. Experience with . Metropolitan Police Department trial board policies and procedures is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat is needed. Good attendance and punctuality is needed.
