Law Clerk (Continuous Job Opening) - Legal Support and Research - Salary Information and Job Experience
The Maryland Judiciary is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Law Clerk. This is a continuous job opening, with full-time, at-will positions available throughout the state as needed. The salary for this position varies based on experience and location, with 1st year Appellate Law Clerks earning $68,499, and Circuit Court and District Court Law Clerks earning between $63,119 and $70,120, depending on bar membership. This is an exempt position, with regular/temporary, full-time, at-will status.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct legal research and provide up-to-date information to the judge on a case-by-case basis.
- Review motions, court files, and draft memoranda for the judge.
- Attend court proceedings as requested.
- Deliver and triage chamber's work prior to sending to the judge.
- Perform duties based on the level of the court: District Court, Circuit Court, Appellate Court of Maryland, and Supreme Court of Maryland.

Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Prior legal writing experience is preferred. Upon application, candidates may be requested to provide writing samples, unofficial or official transcripts, and three references.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and court procedures.
- Familiarity with the progression of cases from original charge through trial, sentencing, modification, and violation of probation stages.
- General office work, such as filing and recording information.
- Proficiency with computer hardware and software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to perform legal research and understand law-related materials.
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to compose orders and memoranda.
- Familiarity with policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
