Job Title: Agency Attorney 01
Job Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of a Level 3 Attorney and will engage in challenging and complex legal matters for the organization. The responsibilities include:
- Representing the organization in Civil Court-Housing Part, negotiating, drafting, and appearing before judges for stipulations of settlement related to non-payment, holdover, and repair cases.
- Researching and preparing non-payment and holdover cases for trial, arguing them before a Housing Court Judge, and handling illegal lockout hearings, contempt, multiple petitioner, and commercial cases.
- Preparing briefs, motions, legal opinions, affidavits, memoranda, and other legal documents.
- Representing and defending the organization in repair cases initiated by residents, negotiating settlement stipulations, arguing motions, and potentially proceeding to trial. This includes collaborating with Developments to schedule repair access dates and coordinating with Skilled Trades and Technical Services to expedite repairs.
- Appearing and representing the organization as a Judgment Creditor in Bankruptcy Court, preparing and filing motions to ensure the collection of all pre-petition and post-petition rent.
- Performing other related duties as required.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding all proceedings related to the organization.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Admission to the New York State Bar.
2. One year of satisfactory . legal experience following admission to any state bar, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
3. Continued membership in good standing with the New York State Bar for the duration of employment.
Additional qualifications for Assignment Levels:
- Assignment Level II requires one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience post-bar admission in relevant legal areas.
- Assignment Level III requires two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience post-bar admission in relevant legal areas.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and research skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to clearly and concisely define and address factual and legal issues both in writing and orally.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
- Familiarity with housing laws and regulations, particularly public housing, Section 8, and other affordable housing.
- Knowledge of multifamily housing management, building systems maintenance, and construction law.
- Understanding of privacy and confidentiality law and regulations, environmental law and regulations.
- Background or experience in administrative law, policy, or legislative matters.
- Ability to devise creative solutions to achieve agency objectives.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $81, to $95,.
