The **Members Only**, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our Legal Department. This position offers a competitive salary of $110,000 and excellent benefits, including comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a retirement plan with a 14% annual employer contribution. The Legal Counsel will report to the Deputy Court Administrator/Chief Legal Counsel and will be responsible for managing and directing the day-to-day operations of the Legal Department, which includes in-house counsel attorneys and support staff, a Records Custodian and staff handling public records requests, and a law student intern/extern program through partnerships with local law schools.
The Legal Counsel will have a director-level position and will be responsible for providing direction and administration of the Legal Department. This includes delegating and coordinating work, planning and implementing organizational goals, evaluating and monitoring performance of assigned department staff, and developing and maintaining standards of practice. Additionally, the Legal Counsel will supervise, conduct, and coordinate legal research and education at the Court, review and ensure completion and accuracy of all legal research requests, and assist in developing and disseminating legal forms for use in all areas of the Court.
The Legal Counsel will also assist in developing and conducting Continuing Legal Education (CLEs) and informational programs for Judges, Magistrates, Court employees, attorneys, and members of the public. They will also maintain open and effective communication with legal entities, such as the Supreme Court of Ohio, Bar Associations, and State and Local Representatives. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with judicials, Court Administration, staff, and public officials. They should also have a strong knowledge of Ohio Juvenile Rules and Ohio Revised Code, as well as demonstrated oral, written, and research skills. The Legal Counsel should be detail-oriented, have strong time management skills, and be a demonstrated leader. Experience with computer legal research software and the Internet is also required.
Minimum qualifications for this position include a JD degree and a minimum of five (5) years of legal work experience, including at least one (1) year of demonstrable leadership experience or direct supervisory experience. Applicants must also have a license to practice law in the State of Ohio.
