Overview:

American Express is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director & Counsel to join their General Counsel’s Organization. This role will be responsible for managing all aspects of complex consumer and commercial litigation and pre-litigation disputes, as well as leading and managing internal and governmental investigations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general litigation practice, with experience managing commercial litigation and/or investigations, as well as the ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results. Responsibilities:

- Managing all aspects of complex consumer and commercial litigation and pre-litigation disputes
- Leading and managing internal and governmental investigations
- Advising business clients and legal colleagues on litigation risk and developing risk mitigation strategies
- Providing privilege and litigation risk mitigation training and advice to business lawyers and clients
- Actively managing outside counsel, litigation budgets, invoices, and expenses

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree & .
- Qualified to practice law in New York
- 8+ years in general litigation practice, with experience managing commercial litigation and/or investigations
- Demonstrated experience leading others and communicating directly with clients
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with mass arbitrations, class actions, or government investigations
- Knowledge of consumer finance or antitrust laws
- Trial experience; first-chair experience a plus
- Ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to client issues
- Experience using Relativity

Experience Range: 8+ years in general litigation practice
Salary Range: $170, to $255, annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
