Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal will play a critical role in supporting attorneys on complex and high-stakes criminal matters. The position involves a variety of tasks essential for case strategy, trial preparation, and ensuring legal processes are met with diligence, speed, and discretion. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys at court hearings, trials, depositions, and client meetings.
- Preparing exhibits and witness materials for court.
- Supporting trial logistics, including in-court technology setup and file management.
- Drafting and responding to discovery requests, subpoenas, and third-party records requests.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing discovery responses and case documents.
- Coordinating and communicating with prosecutors, courts, and third-party agencies for record collection, including FOIA requests.
- Drafting pleadings, motions, affidavits, and factual sections of legal memoranda.
- Preparing detailed client and witness correspondence.
- Assisting in assembling trial notebooks and motion exhibits.
- Maintaining, updating, and organizing case files using legal case management software.
- Tracking critical deadlines, court dates, and filings to ensure timely compliance.
- Creating and maintaining case logs, discovery indices, and chronology summaries.
- Maintaining ongoing communication with clients regarding case status and timelines.
- Coordinating with experts for document exchanges, scheduling, and deadline tracking.
- Scheduling interviews, hearings, and consultations with all involved parties.
- Assisting attorneys in developing case themes through comprehensive fact organization.
- Preparing timelines, factual summaries, and investigative chronologies to support legal arguments.
- Performing legal and factual research to aid in case development.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: ABA Certified Paralegal
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience, with at least 3 years in criminal defense.
- Skills required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize assignments in a dynamic environment and adapt to shifting demands.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and legal practice management tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite.
Ideal Candidate:
- Paralegal Certification or equivalent experience.
- Notary Public certification.
Salary Information:
- Salary: Based on qualifications and experience, with an estimated range of $55,000 to $70,000 per year.
- Bonus eligibility and performance incentives are available.
