Job Title: 2026 Summer Intern

Job Responsibilities:
Interns participating in the 2026 Summer Intern Program at a reputed firm will gain substantial experience in the practice of law and oral advocacy by working directly in prosecutors' offices. As part of their responsibilities, interns will handle various in-court assignments that are typically managed by assistant prosecutors. This includes engaging in plea negotiations, bench trials, formal hearings, and case reviews. Interns may also participate in family court proceedings and have the opportunity to prepare and conduct one or more jury trials during the summer. This position provides a unique insight into the criminal justice system and is tailored for law students interested in trial practice. The assignments given to interns are similar to those expected of new assistant prosecutors.

Interns are expected to complete an 11-week internship, during which they will gain hands-on experience by representing the People of the State of Michigan in court proceedings as authorized under Michigan Court Rule . Each intern will serve at the pleasure of their host county prosecutor.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates eligible for this internship must be law students who have completed at least 40 credit hours of law school by May 8, 2026. Applicants should have at least one semester (or term) of law school remaining after the completion of the internship. Preference is given to candidates who have completed courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence by May 2026. Applicants must also be Michigan residents or demonstrate an intent to practice law in Michigan upon graduation. A demonstrable interest in the criminal justice system, particularly in the field of prosecution, is required.

Salary Information:
Interns will receive a salary of $9, for the 11-week duration of the internship. This compensation is based on a 40-hour workweek at a rate of per hour. Interns will not be paid during the mandatory four-day training and orientation period, although the costs for training, including most meals and materials, are covered. Lodging will be provided at no cost for interns living more than 50 miles from the training location.

Application Process:
The deadline for direct applications is September 26, 2025. Candidates attending law schools where the reputed firm participates in on-campus interviews (OCI) must apply through that process, complying with school-specific deadlines. Applicants from other schools should submit required materials, including a cover letter, resume, pre-interview survey, law school transcript (unofficial is acceptable), and a writing sample to the designated contact at the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council (PACC). The PACC will conduct interviews and recommend candidates to host county prosecutors, who will make the final hiring decisions.

Training and Orientation:
Selected interns are required to attend a four-day training and orientation session in May 2026. This session will provide an overview of the duties and responsibilities of prosecutors and cover essential legal subjects and trial advocacy. This training is designed to prepare interns for their roles and ensure they are well-equipped to handle their assignments.

The reputed firm is committed to equal opportunity employment and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
