Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys by providing administrative and research support, including the preparation and review of documents.
- Monitor new and active litigation, ensuring all deadlines are calendared and met.
- Schedule meetings with witnesses and gather information relevant to open cases.
- Organize and prepare various stages of litigation, including creating documents for motions and trials.
- Draft legal documents such as routine pleadings, motions, affidavits, and interrogatories, and file them according to judicial procedures.
- Conduct research and analysis of statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources, providing written analysis to attorneys.
- Interview clients and witnesses, preparing summaries of their statements.
- Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, and pleadings.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, potentially attending trials and hearings.
- Perform administrative duties, including reviewing documents for submission to the City Council and reviewing police body cam footage.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- A combination of job-related education and experience that demonstrates the equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities required to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered by management.
- Certification in Paralegal Studies or a related field is preferred.
- Two years of experience working as a paralegal or legal secretary.
- Prior government experience is preferred.
- Paralegal certification is preferred.
Salary Information:
- Hiring range: - per hour.
- Pay range: - per hour.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications.
- Light work: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical demands include bending, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, using hands/fingers for repetitive motions, walking, and vision requirements.
- Work is primarily conducted in office settings.
- No physical exam is needed.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, move, or position items up to 30 lbs with or without assistance.
