Job Title: Fall 2026 Fellowship Sponsorship

Job Responsibilities:
The selected Fellow for the Fall 2026 Fellowship Sponsorship will work with the Capital Punishment Project within the organization, focusing on systemic challenges related to race discrimination in the death penalty's application. The responsibilities include:

- Conducting comprehensive legal research and analysis to develop theories supporting new litigation projects.
- Drafting legal documents such as memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs.
- Interviewing witnesses and potential clients to gather relevant information.
- Participating in discovery and trial practice to support ongoing litigation.
- Drafting and editing materials for public education and non-litigation advocacy.
- Providing support and assistance to organization affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
- Helping manage the summer legal internship program and supervising student interns.
- Engaging in public speaking and attending relevant meetings and conferences as required.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree or be expected to receive a . by the spring of 2026. The position requires:

- A demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, criminal justice, and racial justice.
- Willingness to work closely with the Capital Punishment Project through the funding application process.
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact-finding.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Self-motivation with the ability to manage various tasks and see projects through to completion.

Salary Information:
The organization has a litigator scale that determines pay for attorneys within the Legal Department. The salary range based on years since law school graduation is as follows:

- 0-2 years: $92,374-$115,393
- 3-5 years: $129,244-$152,480
- 6-10 years: $159,461-$179,891
- 11-15 years: $183,255-$193,657
- 16-20 years: $195,485-$200,519
- 21-25 years: $201,534-$205,663
- 26-30+ years: $206,654-$210,677

These salaries reflect positions based in New York, NY, where the National Offices are headquartered. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed.
