O'Melveny is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Conflicts Attorney to join our team and help us continue to provide exceptional service to our clients. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a global law firm that values diversity, innovation, and excellence. As a Conflicts Attorney, you will play a critical role in identifying and resolving potential ethics and business conflict issues for the firm. You will work closely with the General Counsel and Conflicts Manager to ensure that the firm maintains its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of its work. This is a challenging and rewarding position that offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients and matters.
Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000
Location: Any of our Southern California offices
Department: Conflicts & Engagement Management
Experience: 5+ years of legal experience, preferably with a large law firm
Education: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and . bar admission in California
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze complex conflict reports and identify potential conflict of interest issues with new legal hires, new business, and business development initiatives
- Utilize internal and external databases to research conflicts of interest issues and provide information to attorneys and administrators
- Prepare detailed summaries and recommend steps to resolve potential ethical and business-related conflicts of interest
- Review and draft engagement letters and conflicts waivers related to the firm's clearance of new clients, matters, and lateral attorneys
- Work closely with firm attorneys and administrators to assist with conflict resolution through drafting and implementing screening procedures and obtaining waivers
- Stay updated on changes in ethics rules, ethics opinions, and case law related to conflicts of interest
- Participate in special projects and duties as assigned by management
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and . bar admission in California
- 5+ years of legal experience, including identifying and clearing conflicts of interest, preferably with a large law firm
- Prior experience with InTapp Open, ethics wall, and business intake software a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team
- Professional composure in challenging situations
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent use of a keyboard at a moderate to advanced level
