Counsel - Personal Risk Services

Job Responsibilities:
The Counsel for Personal Risk Services is tasked with supporting the Personal Lines underwriting business within the North American sector. The primary responsibility involves advising business clients on essential regulatory and compliance-related matters related to various personal lines products and policies, such as homeowners, auto, excess, recreational marine, etc. Key responsibilities include:

- Effective communication with business partners, underwriting, claims professionals, and Legal and Compliance colleagues to provide clear guidance on coverage developments, industry trends, and new exposures in personal lines insurance.
- Drafting contracts and conducting legal reviews of all personal insurance products, including home, auto, valuable articles, excess, yacht, and cyber.
- Providing general regulatory advice on issues such as cancellation/nonrenewal, personal lines underwriting matters, customer complaints, confidentiality, and non-disclosure agreements.
- Assisting with responses to regulatory criticisms on product filings and regulatory inquiries.
- Conducting legal research on various underwriting-related issues.
- Completing legal reviews of marketing materials.
- Providing legal support for sales and service units.
- Reviewing and revising new and existing personal lines insurance products, endorsements, contracts, and other ancillary documents associated with such policies.
- Reviewing and interpreting applicable federal and state laws and regulations, legislative developments, case decisions, and claims verdicts related to personal lines to provide comprehensive legal advice.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a . The position requires a minimum of 1 to 5 years of legal experience. An ideal candidate for this entry-level counsel position would have some insurance (property/casualty; personal lines a plus) or other financial institution regulatory experience, along with an insurance coverage analysis background, including policy language development.

Skills required include strong research and analytical abilities, outstanding verbal and written communication/presentation skills, and the ability to offer advice on complex issues to business professionals at every level of the organization. The candidate should exhibit enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented environment and a strong service-oriented disposition, including the ability to multi-task. Understanding the insurance industry, client needs, and business goals is crucial, as is the ability to provide sound consultation and achieve desired results. A proven track record of results, achievement, collaboration, teamwork, problem solving, and negotiation skills is also essential.

Salary Information:
The pay range for this role is $113,400 to $192,800. The specific offer will depend on the applicant’s skills and other factors.
