Job Title: SALT Manager, Sales & Use Tax

Job Responsibilities:

1. Job Summary:
- Advise clients on tax implications related to their business objectives.
- Recommend alternative courses of action and identify compliance methods with tax regulations.
- Engage in marketing, networking, and business development within the area of expertise.
- Recognize and apply potential changes in tax policy to tax compliance.
- Collaborate with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients.

2. Research:
- Identify complex situations requiring research and outline issues and appropriate research sources.
- Analyze researched facts and sources before composing detailed reports of findings.
- Develop relationships with in-state and out-of-state Department of Tax/Department of Revenue personnel.

3. Tax Compliance:
- Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns, identifying significant state tax issues.
- Compose responses to notices from state taxing authorities.
- Provide assistance with exam support.

4. Tax Consulting:
- Draft tax memorandums, opinions, and other documentation on various tax issues.
- Apply all applicable state tax consulting sub-specialties and confer with other professionals when appropriate.
- Determine tax planning processes.
- Ensure tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work and manage engagements.
- Assist in developing consultative selling strategies and manage client expectations.

5. Tax Controversy:
- Represent clients before any tax authority on contested issues.

6. Tax Related Software:
- Utilize GoSystems, tax research databases, and other tax-related software for assigned tasks.

7. Tax Specialization:
- Provide technical client service to multi-state companies with state and local tax issues.
- Conduct negotiation of settlements, voluntary disclosure agreements, and state tax audit representation.
- Draft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issues.

8. Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109:
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers.

9. ASC740-10:
- Understand and apply industry standards, along with firm policies and Tax Quality Manual requirements related to FAS 109 and FIN48, as well as FAS5 for sales tax and unclaimed properties.

10. Strategy Development:
- Review studies of tax implications to identify alternative actions benefiting clients.
- Develop new or improved ideas to advance client positions, reduce taxes, or offer non-tax benefits.
- Assist with researching potential tax strategies and suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition.

11. Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise the day-to-day workload of Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements and review work products.
- Ensure Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns are trained on relevant tax software.
- Evaluate performance and assist in developing goals for professional development.
- Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete evaluations for Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns.
- Act as Career Advisor to Senior Associates and Associates, as appropriate.

Education and Experience Information:

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required.
- Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred.

Experience:
- More than five years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience required.
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis required.
- Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions preferred.
- Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships preferred.

License/Certifications:
- CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred.

Software:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools preferred.

- Solid organizational skills with a focus on meeting project deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task while working independently or within a group.

- Executive presence and ability to act as primary ,000. Specific ranges for Maryland, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, and Washington DC are the same: $79,800 - $168,000.
