This program provides valuable real-world experience in various offices, including Local and Area Offices, CP&P, and DCF Central Offices.

To be eligible for the internship, applicants must be currently enrolled in college. However, certain factors such as previous criminal history or driving record may disqualify an applicant from consideration. Interested students are encouraged to submit an inquiry form with ample time before any deadlines, as the application process can take up to 2 months.

One of the available internship positions is with the Office of Legal and Legislative Affairs. This role involves legal research and summarization of court decisions that impact the department, as well as communication with various agencies in a professional manner. The intern will also work closely with two specific units within the office.

The Administrative Hearings Unit (AHU) is responsible for processing written statewide requests for administrative appeals. This includes appeals regarding abuse/neglect findings, Office of Licensing actions, and adoption/KLG subsidy denials. The intern will assist in the review process to determine appeal eligibility and may also assist in writing final decisions for these cases.

The intern will also work closely with the immigration unit, which provides assistance to DCF staff and clients with immigration issues. This includes education on topics such as special immigrant juvenile status and U-Visas, as well as networking with other agencies and stakeholders to facilitate access to immigration services.

Interested students can submit an inquiry form through the DCF website. Field coordinators at colleges and universities can also submit an inquiry form on behalf of their students. However, placement in the internship program is not guaranteed.

Overall, the DCF internship program offers a valuable opportunity for college students to gain real-world experience in their field of study. With a variety of positions available and the chance to work in different offices, this program is a great way to prepare for a career in social work or related fields.
