Job Responsibilities
This role offers an excellent opportunity to join a sophisticated litigation practice within a dynamic, friendly, and collaborative atmosphere. The Litigation Legal Assistant will engage in both administrative and paralegal responsibilities, providing comprehensive support to litigation attorneys. Key duties include:
- Providing general office support such as maintaining and organizing files, photocopying, maintaining calendars, preparing expense reports, submitting invoices for payment, scheduling depositions, conferences, and meetings, and coordinating travel arrangements.
- Setting up new clients and matters, which involves running conflict checks and preparing engagement letters.
- Preparing and finalizing basic correspondence and other documents, ensuring formatting, consistency, and accuracy of time-sensitive, high-profile documents.
- Calculating, calendaring, and tracking court and other filing deadlines.
- Formatting, proofreading, and finalizing detailed correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents, including for e-filings.
- Organizing documents and files in both paper and electronic filing systems, including document creation, conversion, and formatting.
- Filing pleadings in state and federal courts, courts of appeals, and Supreme Courts; communicating with court staff as necessary; keeping current with changes in court rules and filing procedures.
- Performing general research and support activities to assist attorneys.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a litigation legal assistant.
- Litigation experience in a private law firm setting.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and document management systems.
- Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with other legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys, as well as independently.
- Must provide excellent internal and external client service.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with a solution-oriented approach.
- High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
