Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal at the company is tasked with providing high-quality, timely, and cost-effective legal services and support under the direction of the General Counsel. Operating within a dynamic work environment, this position requires a fundamental understanding of residential real estate development, construction, and property management matters. The primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing correspondences related to eviction and tenant issues.
- Managing the application process and approval for service animals/pets, reasonable accommodation requests, and Section 8 housing.
- Collaborating with Regional and Community Managers to handle resident situations to prevent legal escalation.
- Working closely with Community staff on problematic residents and major issues.
- Assisting in the preparation, updates, and revisions of corporate policies, lease changes, notices, and contracts, including tenant and vendor agreements.
- Tracking critical dates, deadlines, and progress on various tasks.
- Managing electronic files and recordkeeping.
- Coordinating with various city authorities regarding property-related notices, as needed.
- Assisting in addressing claims, both minor and significant.
- Supporting all phases of litigation, including investigation, discovery, and document compilation.
- Acting as the first point of contact and liaison for insurance adjustors, attorneys, and other third parties.
- Assisting in training company staff on legal issues and handling different situations.
- Undertaking various projects as directed by the General Counsel.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Paralegal position should have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; a Paralegal Certification is preferred.
- A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in residential real estate, with previous experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment.
- The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with excellent time management capabilities.
- A high level of professionalism and discretion, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Advanced proficiency in computer applications, word processing, databases, and spreadsheets, particularly the MS Office Suite.
- A willingness to expand substantive legal knowledge and take on new and increasingly complex matters.
- Proactiveness in organization, capability for multi-tasking, and ability to work well with a diverse group of employees across various departments.
Physical Requirements:
The Paralegal position requires:
- Regular travel to multiple property locations and company meetings/conferences.
- Frequent movement, including ascending/descending stairs around apartment homes and communities.
- The ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift, with occasional lifting/moving up to 25lbs and frequent lifting/moving up to 5lbs.
- Constant communication and information exchange with coworkers, vendors, residents, and visitors.
- The ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- The ability to observe details at close range.
- Constant operation of computers, 10-key, and other office productivity machinery.
- Working in low to moderate noise levels.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Paralegal position is to per hour, depending on experience (DOE).
