Job Title: Associate Attorney - General Liability/Workers Comp
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Attorney will be a part of the litigation group at the law firm, specifically focusing on general liability and workers' compensation cases. The primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting file reviews and legal analyses of claims and causes of action.
- Performing extensive legal research and drafting substantial briefs, memos, pleadings, and appellate briefs.
- Meeting an annual billable hour requirement of 1950 hours.
- Regularly representing clients in court, at arbitrations, and in depositions.
- Drafting and responding to discovery requests.
- Retaining and collaborating with expert witnesses.
- Preparing for and attending trials.
- Some travel may be required for the role.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires the following educational background and professional experience:
- A Juris Doctor (.) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved law school.
- Admission to practice law in the state of Virginia is mandatory; admission in other states is beneficial but not required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in general liability is required, with workers' compensation experience considered a plus.
- Familiarity with handling civil cases from inception to resolution.
- Experience in taking and defending depositions, including 30(b)(6) and expert depositions.
- Proficiency in drafting and arguing substantive motions, as well as attending hearings and trials.
- Experience in participating in negotiations and mediations.
The candidate must possess superior analytical and problem-solving skills, strong research abilities, and excellent written and oral communication skills. A strong work ethic, ability to self-manage, and capability to work effectively in a team environment are essential. Additionally, the candidate must respond promptly to email and phone inquiries and demonstrate excellent client skills and telephone manners.
Salary Information:
The pay range for this full-time position is between $85,000 and $130,000 annually.
