Job Title: Matter Data Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The Matter Data Specialist at the law firm is primarily responsible for the extraction and management of deal and litigation data points from various materials, utilizing generative AI tools for data extraction. The role involves ensuring the accuracy of extracted information, data entry into the experience tracking database, responding to inquiries from attorneys and marketing teams, and generating analytical reports. The specialist collaborates with the Practice Innovation and Practice Engineering teams on the development of AI tools for data extraction and provides expertise in analyzing these tools, determining use cases, and testing tool capabilities. Additionally, the specialist works with other Data Management groups to evaluate, select, and implement external data sets for enhancing matter data. Specific duties include:
- Creating and maintaining a system for cataloguing and tracking firm matters using internal and external data.
- Leveraging existing workflows to track deal matter status from open to close.
- Gathering matter data from file management systems, secretaries, practice team assistants, and attorneys when necessary.
- Contributing to developing procedures for identifying final closing documents and other necessary matter-related documents.
- Training generative AI platforms to extract relevant data points from matter documents.
- Reviewing and evaluating results from generative AI platforms and providing feedback on their capabilities.
- Interacting with attorneys for clarity on matter details when needed.
- Inputting litigation and deal data into internal experience tracking software.
- Providing regular progress reports to the Matter Data Attorney Manager and other stakeholders.
- Reviewing data regularly for inconsistencies and gaps and remediating them.
- Serving as an internal expert on data and database systems, assisting peers in locating, interpreting, and analyzing data.
- Monitoring support inboxes for internal data tracking and responding to data requests from attorneys, marketing teams, and other users.
- Working with the Matter Data Attorney Manager and administrative team to clean up data and improve the experience tracking system.
- Assisting other teams in extracting and exporting data for use in other platforms and systems within the law firm.
- Performing other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience Information:
Required:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications after orientation.
- Ability to analyze and manipulate data using Excel.
- Availability to work overtime as required.
- A minimum of 2 years of direct-related experience in a law firm knowledge management, data analysis, or accounting position providing data analysis and management for corporate law transactions or litigation matters. Alternatively, 2+ years of experience as a paralegal or attorney working in a law firm on Private Equity, Venture Financing, M&A, Debt Financing, Public Offering, or other corporate law transactions or litigation matters, specifically reviewing and interpreting corporate term sheets and other corporate deal documents or tracking updates on the status of litigation matters.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or JD Degree.
- Experience using Litera’s Foundation platform.
- Experience searching for and using data from Salesforce and Pitchbook platforms.
- Experience with data extraction from legal documentation using generative AI platforms.

Salary Information:
The law firm offers a competitive compensation package and excellent benefits program. The expected hourly pay range for this position, with a work schedule of 40 hours per week, is - , which translates to an annual salary range of $96, - $141,. The final offer amount will depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and the candidate's skill set.
