Job Title: Paralegal - Responsive Pleadings
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal for Responsive Pleadings at the law firm will be responsible for providing comprehensive assistance to attorneys through various tasks essential for litigation practice. These tasks include fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and client service. The focus will be on handling responsive pleadings for asbestos cases, which encompasses discovery, deposition preparation, investigation, trial and mediation preparation, analyzing factual information, preparing pleadings, motions, and/or briefs, managing document production databases, and participating in trials. Essential duties include:
- Maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude.
- Complying with firm policies.
- Sustaining attention to detail and quality of work.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating tasks to Paralegal Assistants or Information Governance and supervising them.
- Attending and participating in in-house CLEs.
- Supervising and mentoring Paralegal Assistants.
- Anticipating attorney needs.
- Handling all key duties independently without supervision from another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal.
- Meeting a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year.

Position-Specific Requirements:
- Mandatory experience in Asbestos/Toxic Tort litigation.
- A Paralegal Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or an Associate’s degree with paralegal training.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required: Mass Tort/Asbestos experience.
- Preferred: Florida asbestos experience.
- Required: Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor's Degree.
Salary Information:
Compensation for this position is commensurate with skill and experience, with variations based on location and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $84,000 - $112,000
- State of Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- State of Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- State of Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- State Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- State of Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- State of New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- State of Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
These salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and dependent on individual and firm performance.
