Job Title: District Attorney Post-Bar Law Clerk: February or July 2025 Bar Exam (Law Clerk II)

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform legal research in the preparation of legal briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
- Prepare drafts and legal memoranda summarizing studies of court decisions, state statutes, County Ordinances, and legal opinions.
- Review pleadings, deeds, contracts, and documentary evidence and prepare opinions.
- Prepare correspondence and reports.
- Assist with case preparation, including but not limited to witness and victim contact and evidence preparation.
- Attend and appear on the record in court.
- Prepare motions and work in the case management system.
- Assist with other case-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
Option I:
- Education: Enrolled in or currently in the final year of an accredited Juris Doctorate (JD) or Master of Law (LLM) program, or recently graduated from such a program.
- Exam: First-time testers expecting to take, or awaiting results from, the California State Bar Exam scheduled in February or July 2025.

Option II:
- Education: Same as Option I.
- Exam: Same as Option I.
- Certificate: Eligibility to obtain a Certificate for Practical Training of Law Students from the California Board of Bar Examiners.

Option III:
- Education: Same as Option I.
- Exam: Testers expecting to take, or awaiting results from, the California State Bar Exam in February or July 2025.
- Experience: Previous intern or Law Clerk with the County of Riverside Office of the District Attorney, or current active bar license in another jurisdiction.

Other Requirements:
- License: Must be eligible to obtain a valid California Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of: Principles of civil and criminal law, legal research methods, preparation of briefs and opinions, law library resources, trial and hearing procedures, rules of evidence, and county government functions.
- Ability to: Perform legal research, analyze legal problems, prepare drafts of legal documents, present facts and arguments clearly in written and oral form, and work cooperatively with others.
- Desired Experience, Knowledge, Abilities: Knowledge of discovery obligations as a prosecutor, ability to prepare and organize legal discovery, skill in conducting preliminary hearings, ability to present misdemeanor trials, and ability to devise trial strategies.

The County of Riverside Office of the District Attorney is currently recruiting post-bar law clerks for the Spring and Fall of 2025. The position offers an opportunity for incumbents to become entry-level prosecutors upon successfully passing the California Bar Exam in 2025. Positions are available throughout Riverside County, with priority vacancies in the Coachella Valley Office and the Colorado River Office. Incumbents are expected to work approximately a 40-hour work week. The position is open to students enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited JD or LLM program and first-time testers of the California State Bar Exam scheduled in February or July 2025. Depending on the assignment, the Law Clerk II is a natural progression underfill for the classifications of Deputy District Attorney I, with incumbents expected to promote after meeting the necessary requirements.
