Opportunities:
- Working with attorneys in court
- Representing indigent clients in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases
- Assisting with research and writing projects, motion work, and trial preparation
- Participating in training seminars on criminal law, ethics, and trial practice
Volunteer Experience:
- Eligible for certification under State Bar rules
- May appear in court, on the record, under supervision of deputy public defenders
- Arguing motions, conducting preliminary hearings, and participating in jury trials
- Background check required
Requirements:
- 3L candidates awaiting graduation from an accredited law school
- Demonstrated interest in criminal law, trial practice, or public service
- Desire to work with indigent and underserved communities
