Job Responsibilities
As a Senior Attorney, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of legal tasks. These may include providing "in-house counsel" advice to program managers, preparing pleadings, planning litigation strategies, drafting legislation, rules, and regulations, and analyzing legal opinions, briefs, and other materials. You will also be involved in conducting legal research and analysis, drafting or reviewing contracts, preparing opinions and memoranda of law, and appearing at administrative tribunals or courts.
Education and Experience Information
The position may be filled at various levels depending on the qualifications of the candidate:
- Assistant Attorney 1: Starting salary of $66,951, requiring graduation from law school or eligibility to take the NYS Bar Examination.
- Assistant Attorney 2: Starting salary of $74,193, requiring admission to the NYS Bar.
- Assistant Attorney 3: Starting salary of $82,326, requiring one year as an Assistant Attorney 2 or admission to the NYS Bar and one year of subsequent professional legal experience.
- Senior Attorney: Starting salary of $96,336, requiring one year as an Assistant Attorney 3, or admission to the NYS Bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience.
Additionally, candidates may qualify through transfer options as specified by the New York State Civil Service law, provided they have the necessary service time and educational background.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $66,951 to $121,413 annually. Location Pay will be included for positions filled Downstate and in the Mid-Hudson Region. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate at the beginning of the Salary Range.
