Job Responsibilities:
The summer associate position at the law firm is designed to provide an immersive experience in the practice of law and the firm's culture. Key responsibilities include:
- Engaging in work assignments across core practice groups: Corporate, Environmental, Energy, Labor & Employment, Litigation, Real Estate, and Technology & Intellectual Property.
- Drafting transactional documents and significant portions of legal briefs.
- Conducting legal research and writing memos.
- Framing discovery requests and learning the mechanics of closing deals.
- Participating in client meetings, hearings, closings, depositions, and trials.
- Engaging in training and professional development programs.
- Receiving guidance and feedback from an experienced attorney mentor.
- Participating in social and networking events to connect with attorneys from various practice groups.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates should be law students with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills, and interests. Relevant experience may include:
- Professional experience prior to law school.
- Community engagement or participation in law school organizations, law review, or moot court.
The selection criteria include:
- Interest in one or more of the firm's core practice areas.
- Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, responsiveness, initiative, and perseverance.
- Commitment to client service and team success.
- A record of academic achievement, excellent legal analysis and writing skills, interpersonal and leadership skills, and community involvement.
- An intent to practice law after law school graduation in the location where hired as a summer associate.
Salary Information:
Summer associates receive the weekly equivalent of an entry-level associate salary for their office location. In the Minneapolis office, this equates to a weekly salary of $3,846.
