Job Title: Senior Law Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
Under limited supervision, the Senior Law Clerk will provide essential support to attorneys representing the State in both state and federal courts. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive legal research to support case preparation and legal strategies.
- Preparing briefs, pleadings, memoranda, and other vital legal documents to aid in courtroom proceedings.
- Assisting with courtroom hearings and proceedings, ensuring all necessary documentation and evidence are in order.
- Reviewing and summarizing evidence and exhibits, providing detailed analysis to support legal arguments.
- Supporting junior law clerks by monitoring caseloads and offering guidance on tasks and assignments.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Be a current law student graduating in December 2025.
2. Be transferring from out of state and preparing for the swearing-in.
3. Be a recent graduate from an ABA-accredited law school awaiting South Carolina Bar results.
Upon transferring into a permanent Assistant Attorney General position, the applicant must complete Rule 403 requirements. Additionally, candidates involved in State Grand Jury matters will be sworn to SGJ secrecy protocols and required to participate in the random drug testing program.
Additional Requirements:
- The position may require travel and the transport of files.
- Proficient in computers, software, and technology, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other related tools.
- Occasional overnight travel may be necessary, especially during trials or hearings across the State.

- Effective communication and advocacy skills.
- Advanced legal research abilities.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with the public and officials.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
Salary Information:
The position is classified as a temporary full-time role with a pay grade that is unclassified. The hiring range is set at a minimum and maximum rate of per hour.
Additional Comments:
