Job Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for the Life Sciences Patent Attorney or Patent Agent at the law firm involve working closely with the Chemistry & Life Sciences Patent Prosecution team. The candidate will be engaged in handling patent prosecution matters, particularly focusing on innovations at the intersection of software and biology. This role requires:
- Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications related to bioinformatics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, or closely related fields.
- Collaborating with inventors and clients to understand the technical aspects of their innovations and provide strategic advice on patent-related matters.
- Conducting patentability analyses and preparing responses to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Maintaining a detail-oriented approach to ensure the accuracy and completeness of patent applications and related documents.
- Displaying strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical information.
- Providing proficient technical writing and documentation as part of the patent prosecution process.
- For attorney candidates, maintaining corresponding state bar membership for the primary office location.
- Fulfilling a lower billable hour requirement compared to traditional partnership-track positions.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate for this position should possess:
- A USPTO registration as either an Attorney or Patent Agent.
- Strong educational background in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field.
- Preferably an advanced degree such as a Master’s (MS) or Doctorate (PhD).
- At least 3+ years of related patent prosecution experience.
- High familiarity and experience in both software and biological sciences.
- Attorney candidates must hold membership in the corresponding state bar for the primary office location.
Salary Information
The expected salary range for this position is $160,000 to $220,000.
