Removing contact information, phone, fax, address, location, and company/organization names, the job description for the Paralegal Children's Protection Project would be as follows: H1: Paralegal - Children's Protection Project H2: Join Our Team at NIJC - Make a Difference for Immigrant Children Summary: NIJC, a national organization dedicated to advancing human rights for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, is seeking a Paralegal for their Children's Protection Project. This position will provide general support for unaccompanied immigrant children seeking protection through various forms of relief. The Paralegal will conduct Know Your Rights presentations, screenings, research, and other tasks to support staff and pro bono attorneys. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Indianapolis, with competitive salary and benefits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Conduct Know Your Rights presentations and legal screenings for detained and formerly detained children. - Respond to NIJC's non-detained UIC hotline and inbox. - Organize and plan in-person legal services for formerly detained children. - Refer children to legal service providers in their region. - Conduct legal and factual research. - Assess cases for eligibility. - Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses. - Draft applications, affidavits, letters, and other legal documents. - Prepare materials for submission to relevant entities. - Review and analyze cases with supervisor. - Stay updated on immigration law, policies, and procedures. - Maintain accurate and organized records. - Ensure accuracy and timeliness of reports and other work products. - Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality. - Adapt to change and perform other assigned duties. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree and experience working with immigrants, refugees, and/or asylum seekers. - Valid IN Driver's License or ability to obtain. - Fluency in English and Spanish. - Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Physical Demands: - Ability to talk and hear. - Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms. Work Environment: - Moderate noise level.
