A law firm based in Minneapolis is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to join their team. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities, including designing, drafting, and advising on employee benefit plans and executive compensation programs, as well as handling dispute resolution and supporting mergers and acquisitions. Duties:

  • Advise on the design, implementation, and maintenance of various employee benefit plans, including defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs).
  • Provide legal counsel on employee welfare plans and executive compensation programs.
  • Represent clients in employee benefit-related disputes and controversial work.
  • Support merger and acquisition transactions with a focus on employee benefits and executive compensation aspects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with ERISA, tax laws, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate plan documents, amendments, and compliance filings.
  • Guide ESOP transactions and advise on existing ESOP plans.
  • Work closely with clients to provide strategic legal advice tailored to their specific employee benefits needs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in employee benefits law, with a strong focus on ERISA and executive compensation.
  • Expertise in employee benefit plan design and compliance, including tax laws related to employee benefits.
  • Proven experience in advising on ESOPs and handling ESOP-related transactions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to explain complex legal issues clearly.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Minnesota (or eligibility to become licensed in Minnesota).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of ERISA, tax law, and employee benefits regulations.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage client relationships and provide strategic legal counsel.
  • Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
