Hearing Officer
Are you looking for an opportunity to use your legal skills to make a difference in the New York City Transit system? The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is looking for a Hearing Officer to join their People and Labor Relations department.
This position offers a salary range of $73,914 - $97,012 and 479 Hay points. The department is located at 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004 and the hours of work are 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day). This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and preside over discipline and contract grievance hearings at various Transit locations, including depots and remote locations
- Conduct investigations of complaints, including employee interviews and fact gathering and issue written decisions to form the basis of Transit’s position at arbitration proceedings
- Conduct research to assist in preparation for arbitration proceedings
- Assist with scheduling of discipline and grievance cases
- Present expedited arbitration cases and/or adjudicate expedited hearing concerning shortage, medical disputes, and differential pay cases
- Liaise with client departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of management and union personnel
- Proficient computer skills including PeopleSoft/EIS and MS Office
- Knowledge of New York City Transit labor contracts, rules, regulations and policy/instructions
Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; or
- A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Personnel Administration, Industrial Management, Labor Relations or Business Administration or closely related field, and five (5) years of full-time professional experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; or
- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
