Position Overview:

Fenwick & West is currently seeking a patent agent with at least one year of legal practice experience, preferably at a law firm, for our life sciences practice in our Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, or Washington, . offices. The ideal candidate will have a A USPTO registration number, superior academic credentials, excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills a must.

Job Summary:

Fenwick & West is actively seeking a Patent Agent - Life Sciences to join the team. The ideal candidate will have a A USPTO registration number, superior academic credentials, excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills a must.

The anticipated range for this position is $112,500 - 250,000 USD and may vary depending on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance. Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.

Job Responsibilities:

The Patent Agent - Life Sciences will be responsible for providing legal advice to clients on patent matters in the life sciences, including:

• Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and foreign patent offices;
• Conducting patentability and patent landscape searches;
• Preparing opinions on patentability and infringement;
• Preparing freedom to operate analyses;
• Preparing patent applications and responding to office actions;
• Negotiating with patent examiners on behalf of clients;
• Conducting due diligence investigations;
• Preparing and negotiating patent license agreements;
• Preparing and negotiating agreements related to technology transfer;
• Preparing and negotiating patent assignments;
• Preparing and negotiating joint venture agreements;
• Preparing and negotiating technology development agreements; and
• Providing general advice on patent matters.

Requirements:

• At least one year of legal practice experience, preferably at a law firm;
• PhD (or MD) in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, oncology or a related field;
• Post-doctoral experience is desirable but not required;
• USPTO registration number;
• Superior academic credentials;
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills; and
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
