The Best Best & Krieger LLP law firm is currently seeking an Employee Benefits Associate with at least 3-5 years of experience in qualified retirement plans. This is a great opportunity for an attorney looking to work with non-ERISA public retirement plans and church plans. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related regulatory frameworks.

In this role, the Employee Benefits Associate will be responsible for designing and ensuring compliance of qualified retirement plans, including tax and fiduciary compliance. They will also work with non-ERISA, governmental, and church plan clients, as well as CalPERS. Other responsibilities include drafting plan documents and summary plan descriptions, negotiating service provider contracts, and counseling plan sponsors and fiduciaries on compliance requirements and best practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work in a collaborative environment, and a desire to develop and maintain client relationships. They should also have experience with IRS voluntary compliance programs, governmental 457(b) plans, and knowledge of the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013. Admission to practice in California is required for this position.
