Paralegal - Law Firm - Long Term Care Defense - Medical Malpractice Defense

The law firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our team and provide support to our attorneys in all aspects of litigation. This position requires experience in Long Term Care defense and/or Medical Malpractice defense. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal principles and practices, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others. This is a full-time position with a minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month.

Responsibilities:

- Obtain, review, analyze, and summarize legal documentation related to cases
- Schedule depositions and other meetings with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel
- Identify, locate, interview, and evaluate potential experts
- Track requests for documents and follow up on progress
- Regularly review files and proactively work to move cases forward
- Participate in all aspects of discovery and file or trial preparation
- Prepare draft discovery documents
- Maintain an expert database and research opposing counsel's experts
- Make travel arrangements and provide necessary information to attorney
- Perform research on legal issues and precedents
- File documents with various courts
- Enter billable time on a daily basis
- Meet a minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month
- Perform non-billable functions as needed, such as participating in committees, assisting in seminar development, and mentoring new employees
- Ensure all functions are performed in accordance with client guidelines
- Remain flexible and open to requests for support or assistance outside of the scope of this job description

Requirements:

- Associate's degree or certified paralegal education
- Knowledge of legal principles and practices
- Familiarity with various courts and their rules and filing requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
- Impeccable integrity in handling confidential matters
- Typing speed of 45 wpm and proficiency in computer and office equipment
- Willingness to work more than 40 hours per week as needed
- Ability to sit, bend, stoop, use a computer keyboard, and continuously use hands
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and drive to offsite locations if necessary
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation
- Certification as a paralegal preferred, but not required
