The County of Riverside is seeking Deputy District Attorneys at the II, III, and IV levels to join the Special Prosecutions Unit. Job Description

The Deputy District Attorneys in this unit will be responsible for prosecuting organized retail theft, criminal consumer fraud cases, and civil consumer fraud prosecutions. The incumbents will also have the opportunity to work on other related duties as required. The ideal candidates will have expert legal knowledge, strong analytical skills, and courtroom litigation experience. They will also possess excellent research and writing abilities to prepare for various types of criminal and civil cases. The County of Riverside is looking for individuals with significant experience in special litigation, including criminal jury trials, grand jury work, statewide civil litigation, State Bar or judicial council investigation/litigation.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, research, and prepare all types of cases for prosecution
• Present and prosecute cases in all courts within the state
• Interview and advise law enforcement officers and the public on criminal complaints
• Negotiate with the defense regarding the disposition or modification of charges
• Perform legal research in specialized areas of prosecution
• Train and supervise other deputies
• Act for higher level deputies in their absence
• Coordinate the work of support personnel

Qualifications

Deputy District Attorney II:
• One year of experience at the Deputy District Attorney I level with the District Attorney's office of Riverside County (certification of qualifications by the District Attorney may be substituted for up to six months of the required experience)
OR
• One year of experience in the practice of law

Deputy District Attorney III:
• One year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in Riverside County or in an equivalent class with another government agency
OR
• Two years of experience in the practice of criminal law
OR
• Three years of experience in the practice of law

Deputy District Attorney IV:
• One year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney III in Riverside County, or in an equivalent class in the office of another prosecuting attorney in California

All Levels:
• Active membership in the State Bar of California
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License
• Must be able to pass an extensive background check
