Law Firm Seeking Patent Technical Specialist for Multiple Offices

Nixon Peabody, a leading law firm, is seeking a Patent Technical Specialist to join our team. This position will assist with patent research, application preparation and submission, and prosecution activities. We are looking for someone with a strong scientific background and the ability to recommend patent strategies. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct literature and patent searching for attorneys
- Review file histories of patents
- Analyze literature and patent databases to assess patentability
- Assist with patent prosecution under attorney supervision
- Prepare patent applications under attorney supervision
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- 0-3 years of patent experience, preferred post-doctoral or related experience
- Advanced scientific degree (., .) or Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline with relevant experience
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Technical writing skills
- Ability to maintain working relationships with others
- Sound judgement and inquiring disposition
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines
- Sound scientific and technical knowledge
- Awareness of key sources for case law and preparing arguments
- Knowledge of patent prosecution procedures and leading cases affecting patent law
- Understanding of patentability, validity, and infringement concepts
- Familiarity with patent lifecycle stages and application structure
- Ability to apply rules and guidelines within the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure
- Effective patent and literature searching skills
- Ability to prepare key facts and observations for responses and opinions

Salary Information:

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

- Chicago, IL: $98,949 to $150,943
- Washington, DC: $103,252 to $157,505
- Boston, MA: $103,252 to $157,505
- Los Angeles, CA: $103,252 to $157,505
- San Francisco, CA: $107,554 to $164,068

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on factors such as work performance, geographic location, experience, education, and qualifications. The above-listed salary ranges are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary it expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
