Law firm Cooley is currently seeking an experienced Conflicts Analyst to join their Business Intake and Conflicts Team. This full-time position involves identifying, analyzing, and resolving all conflicts requests, as well as maintaining a deep understanding of the firm's business needs. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of applicable experience, a strong understanding of legal ethics, and the ability to work independently and make critical decisions.

Position Responsibilities:

- Analyze and process all conflict requests, ensuring that all engagements and hires are clear from a business and ethical perspective
- Prepare database search terms and create conflicts reports for related parties, including high volume and bulk searches
- Conduct corporate research to confirm the identity of related parties and address any potential conflicts or high-profile issues
- Identify existing and potential conflicts by reviewing and analyzing conflicts reports and supporting documents
- Understand and interpret database results and conflicts reports for firm partners, counsel, attorneys, and professional staff
- Communicate regularly with partners to investigate and discuss potential issues and propose solutions for conflict clearances
- Provide updates to responsible attorneys and other users in connection with conflicts clearances
- Maintain detailed conflicts resolution notes and responses for each request
- Request waivers for matters requiring consent and confirm that all conflicts have been resolved
- Draft conflict waivers and engagement letters as necessary
- Inform and advise firm attorneys and counsel of any special circumstances surrounding complicated requests
- Draft and implement necessary ethical screens
- Stay aware of current legal trends and information
- Conduct conflicts case law and legal ethics research
- Provide conflicts training for secretaries and other staff as needed
- Perform any other duties as assigned or required by the firm

Skills and Experience:

Required:

- Available to work overtime, including weekends if necessary
- Proficiency in IntApp Open and Contract Express or similar programs
- 2+ years of direct applicable experience, such as experience in a law firm or conflicts department
- Strong knowledge of legal ethics, including the American Bar Association's Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the California State Bar Association's Rules of Professional Conduct
- Understanding of corporate law practice
- Experience conducting legal and corporate research

Preferred:

- Bachelor's degree, JD strongly preferred
- Knowledge and experience with complete conflicts resolution strongly preferred
- Paralegal certificate preferred or completion of an ethics course in a paralegal program
- Prior experience as a paralegal or legal researcher in a law firm

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good judgment, analytical thinking, and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with great attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Professional and confident in communicating with attorneys, directors, and managers
- Capable of handling time-sensitive matters while adhering to legal ethical rules
- Excellent customer service skills

Salary Information:

The expected hourly pay range for this position is - . The final offer amount will depend on the candidate's geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset.
