FamiliesFirst, Inc. has been a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families since its inception in 1974. Founded as The Praul Center Residential Treatment Program (RTP) in Davis, California, FamiliesFirst started with a humble beginning, serving three emotionally disturbed boys in a family home with just two staff members. Over the years, the organization has grown and evolved, expanding its reach and impact to become a beacon of hope for countless individuals.

In 1978, FamiliesFirst introduced the Family Living Project, a foster care program that provided a nurturing and supportive environment for children in need. This program, later known as the Professional Foster Care Program (PFC), became a cornerstone of FamiliesFirst's mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive in a loving family setting.

Additionally, FamiliesFirst opened a Nonpublic School in Davis, catering to the educational needs of children in the residential program. The organization also launched an Intensive Family Preservation Program (IFPP) in Solano County, offering intensive, in-home services to families on the brink of crisis. To accommodate the growing demand, FamiliesFirst established a six-bed house in Davis, further solidifying its commitment to providing a nurturing environment for children.

In 1985, the organization underwent a significant transformation, changing its name to FamiliesFirst. This change reflected the organization's core belief in the importance of family in children's lives.
