AVP, Legal Counsel - Claims Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
As the Assistant Vice President & Counsel, you will be a key part of the Dedicated Legal Resource (DLR) team, providing primary legal counsel to the company and its Benefits Operations teams across all . sites and product lines. Your responsibilities will include:

- Partnering with Benefits Operations to identify and address claim-related legal issues, providing real-time legal guidance on various products and issues.
- Coordinating with Benefits Operations leadership and resource partners to support and reinforce key messages and observations.
- Monitoring the external environment to identify and address legal trends.
- Facilitating communication and information sharing between different parts of the business.
- Analyzing and formulating positions on claims consistent with applicable case law, legislation, and regulations.
- Incorporating and applying federal and state laws and regulations, including ERISA, insurance laws and regulations, and employee benefit laws, to business plans and objectives.
- Providing support to designated business teams, managing workflow and relationships with all levels of employees and management.
- Defending company interests in litigation and disputed matters, and assisting and supervising outside counsel.
- Keeping the legal management team apprised of significant legal issues and soliciting their input as appropriate.
- Identifying law-related training needs and developing and delivering training through various mechanisms.
- Ensuring that all business clients adhere to the Code of Conduct and Legality Policy.
- Actively participating in the development of support staff, such as paralegals.

Education and Experience Information:
- A . (law degree) plus admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction is required.
- Knowledge of the state and federal regulatory environment, including state filing and compliance requirements and processes, is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to build effective working relationships with key constituents across the enterprise, are essential.
- Insurance product knowledge is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, including strategic planning and project management, are preferred.
- Strong people and change management skills are preferred.
- The ability to understand multiple technology applications is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Salary Information:
The base salary range for applicants for this position is $133,,. Actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location, and experience. In addition to the base salary, the company offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive, including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional % contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
