Associate General Counsel, Reinsurance Legal
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate General Counsel for the Reinsurance Legal Team is tasked with providing high-quality advisory, transactional, and regulatory support across the General Insurance sector on ceded and assumed reinsurance-related matters on a global scale. This role is integral to the company's strategic initiatives and involves working on projects that are time-sensitive and highly visible both inside and outside of the company. Key responsibilities include:
- Negotiating the legal aspects of the company's ceded reinsurance treaty programs globally across all property and casualty business lines.
- Advising on reinsurance-related aspects of strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and insurance-linked securities matters.
- Providing counsel to multiple business units on ceded and assumed facultative reinsurance transactions.
- Analyzing the contractual aspects of internal reinsurance arrangements within the company.
- Collaborating with the multinational business, operational, and legal teams to structure and implement the reinsurance aspects of complex multinational programs worldwide.
- Drafting and negotiating reinsurance and collateral documentation to implement captive reinsurance programs globally.
- Working closely with attorneys around the world to address legal, regulatory, and compliance issues related to reinsurance matters.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor is required, along with admission to a . state bar.
- A minimum of 4+ years of legal experience is required, which can be acquired through a law firm and/or as in-house counsel.
- Experience with reinsurance matters and reinsurance-related corporate transactions is preferred.
- Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects and assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- The role requires the ability to work collaboratively with peers and internal clients across a global organization, as well as independently.
Salary Information:
For positions based in New York, the base salary range is $191,000-$204,000. The position is also eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. This role reports directly to the Deputy General Counsel for Reinsurance and offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of matters while interacting directly with senior business leaders within the company. The successful candidate will be a leader respected for their deep technical expertise and/or ability to oversee programs and processes, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, and taking ownership of key outcomes.
