Duties
- Advise clients on compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, and other benefits-related laws.
- Draft, review, and amend retirement and compensation plans.
- Assist with due diligence and benefits-related issues in corporate transactions.
- Handle IRS and DOL correction programs and audits.
- Collaborate with clients, in-house counsel, HR professionals, and third-party vendors.
Requirements
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school; admitted to practice in New York preferred.
- Five or more years of ERISA and employee benefits experience.
- Strong knowledge of tax-qualification rules and benefits compliance.
- Experience handling audits by IRS and DOL.
- Comfort with training staff and managing practice group responsibilities.
Education
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Master of Laws in Taxation strongly preferred.
Certifications
- Admitted to practice law in New York, California, Florida, New Jersey, or Connecticut.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ERISA and employee benefits law.
- Experience with executive compensation and equity incentive plans is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with diverse client bases.
