Great place, getting better
Dec 08, 2023 - Current Employee
Full time Current Employee

Keep making changes, you're heading in the right direction.

The best part of the firm are the people I work with. They are kind, helpful, caring, and fun. With the changes made in recent years and the changes that are continuing to be made, there is an excitement and joy. Some days, cases, and clients can be hard, but in the grand scheme we are making a difference in the lives of our clients and cheering each other on along the way.

The process and procedures need some work and clarity.

None.

The people and the fun parties.

Learn how to manage. Get rid of Donna. Value your hard-working staff. More office functions desperately needed and firm should operate as one team and not in clicks.

There is nothing positive to say about working for this firm.

The firm as a whole is volatile. The Office Manager, Donna Bustos, is an office bully and is clearly not qualified to run an office. Additionally, she is an incessant gossip and you can guarantee your personal employee information, etc. will ever be confidential with Donna as Office Manager.

Wayne and Alan.

Sadly, nothing.

Management already appears to be aware of potential problem areas and working hard to improve the firm experience for everyone involved.

Extremely interesting cases and full of kind, smart attorneys who were an absolute pleasure to work with.

Expectations could be a bit unclear, and general management of cases and associates occasionally a bit haphazard. Cases and clients can be on the difficult side, but that's why the firm compensates attorneys so well.

Ask them about their high rate of personnel turnover

Treat employees with some modicum of respect and do not assume that because they are compensated on a big-law scale that they will stand for the mistreatment that is rampant at this firm.

GG’s compensation is on par with big law firms. GG has very nice offices. Also there is generally good alcohol at parties and other office functions.

The management and culture are both very bad. Alan and Wayne are the only real partners at that firm, and they are very volatile individuals. The personnel in whom they put their trust (Donna, their bully of an office manager and Sarah, a ‘partner’ in the LA office, though she is far too junior) are equally as cruel.

Wayne has sexually harassed numerous women. He also does not practice, but instead ‘develops’ business. Alan is impossible to work with, and assumes everyone, including judges, are less intelligent than he is.

The people who leave are generally good, ethical, hardworking people. They are what was good about this firm. The people who currently work at the firm will say that the people who have left were the problem, but the people who have left tried and failed to make Greenberg Gross better.

Associate Review

More structure (in terms of staffing) and clearer expectations would be helpful. Also, it would be nice to have more formal training and reviews on a regular basis.

Winning cases. Interesting, substantive work. The opportunity to work with some of the most skilled partners (from big firms or the USAO) in a smaller firm environment. A sense of professional fulfillment from providing great client service as a result of having excellent attorneys staffed in a lean and efficient manner. Great camaraderie among partners and associates, regardless of seniority or position. There are also unlimited opportunities for professional development; the firm is a major sponsor at key networking events, and the partners are also very good about including associates in client meetings and case pitches. Overall, it's an amazing place to work as an associate. Also: top-of-the-market compensation & benefits.

Despite the big wins and accolades, it is still a relatively new firm, so expectations and structure are still forming and developing. If you're an associate who needs everything assigned and spoon-fed to you, you won't last very long. Also, the firm has a very high standard for excellent writing. If you have poor and/or sloppy written work, or if you do not take criticism well, you will not be happy here.

None. All of the partners are very unique - so you'll have to find the one(s) who fit well with your work style - but they are all very good people who genuinely want to help you and the client succeed.

The people & the work. As one partner here often says: if you have to work hard, you should work with people who make work enjoyable and on matters that interest you. This firm provides that for me.

Great Place to Learn and Grow as a Trial Lawyer
Jan 14, 2019 - Current Employee
Full time Current Employee

It is difficult to achieve an even distribution of work among associates; however, a more robust process should be put in place to match incoming cases with associates' interests and work level.

This is a dynamic litigation firm that provides associates the opportunity to become outstanding attorneys. If you are proactive and willing, you will get unparalleled experience that includes active participation in developing case strategy, drafting and arguing motions, and presenting at trial. This firm truly offers substantive experience, including trial experience, to associates beginning from day one. Associates also get the opportunity to be involved in business development, including by drafting and attending pitches and meeting potential clients.

The firm promotes from within, both to partner and counsel levels; however, because the firm is still young, the path to partnership is not yet well-established.

The people I would avoid have left the firm. Partners that you may not want to work with depends on whether you dislike particular areas of law or working styles. Working with the named partners can be intense but it is incredibly instructive.

You get to mix the competitive compensation and complex cases of a big firm with the hands-on mentoring and substantive experience of a smaller firm. You also get to learn from some of the best trial and appellate lawyers in the country.

Miserable place to work and people who don't know what they are doing
Jul 08, 2018 - Former Employee
Full time 2017 Former Employee

They need to learn how to be less hateful. They build themselves and their employees up by tearing other people down. They also need to learn to be truthful about their own and their employees capabilities.

They pay the prevailing market salary. That is it. There is nothing that is good about this place apart from the fact that they pay market.

First and foremost, terrible culture. Second, partners (supposed "experts") who don't know what they are doing. Third, sweatshop hours. Beware of the revolving door of people getting hired and being fired/leaving because no matter how much money they pay you, it's not worth it. Beware of the firm that pays you "Cravath" but has no repeat clients and hasn't won any cases. Despite their efforts to sell you to the contrary (and they are good sales people), this place does not have cutting edge work, they do not have trials, and they will not treat you well.

Pretty much all of them. They are good salespeople. They will sell you the sun and the moon. But they can't deliver.

There aren't any. Only way to survive there is to keep your head down and fly under the radar until you can get out.
