Greenberg Gross LLP Reviews

Advice to law firm management: Treat employees with some modicum of respect and do not assume that because they are compensated on a big-law scale that they will stand for the mistreatment that is rampant at this firm.

Pros: GG’s compensation is on par with big law firms. GG has very nice offices. Also there is generally good alcohol at parties and other office functions.

Cons: The management and culture are both very bad. Alan and Wayne are the only real partners at that firm, and they are very volatile individuals. The personnel in whom they put their trust (Donna, their bully of an office manager and Sarah, a ‘partner’ in the LA office, though she is far too junior) are equally as cruel.

Partners to Avoid and Why: Wayne has sexually harassed numerous women. He also does not practice, but instead ‘develops’ business. Alan is impossible to work with, and assumes everyone, including judges, are less intelligent than he is.

Favorite Things About this Firm: The people who leave are generally good, ethical, hardworking people. They are what was good about this firm. The people who currently work at the firm will say that the people who have left were the problem, but the people who have left tried and failed to make Greenberg Gross better.

Advice to law firm management: More structure (in terms of staffing) and clearer expectations would be helpful. Also, it would be nice to have more formal training and reviews on a regular basis.

Pros: Winning cases. Interesting, substantive work. The opportunity to work with some of the most skilled partners (from big firms or the USAO) in a smaller firm environment. A sense of professional fulfillment from providing great client service as a result of having excellent attorneys staffed in a lean and efficient manner. Great camaraderie among partners and associates, regardless of seniority or position. There are also unlimited opportunities for professional development; the firm is a major sponsor at key networking events, and the partners are also very good about including associates in client meetings and case pitches. Overall, it's an amazing place to work as an associate. Also: top-of-the-market compensation & benefits.

Cons: Despite the big wins and accolades, it is still a relatively new firm, so expectations and structure are still forming and developing. If you're an associate who needs everything assigned and spoon-fed to you, you won't last very long. Also, the firm has a very high standard for excellent writing. If you have poor and/or sloppy written work, or if you do not take criticism well, you will not be happy here.

Partners to Avoid and Why: None. All of the partners are very unique - so you'll have to find the one(s) who fit well with your work style - but they are all very good people who genuinely want to help you and the client succeed.

Favorite Things About this Firm: The people & the work. As one partner here often says: if you have to work hard, you should work with people who make work enjoyable and on matters that interest you. This firm provides that for me.

Greenberg Gross was founded with a single goal: to provide the best possible service to clients involved in high-stakes litigation in the most cost-effective manner. For several years, the founders worked as partners in one of the world’s largest law firms, specializing in the defense of clients who had been sued in business cases. In 2011, they co-tried a high-profile case in which their client, a real estate developer named NCA, obtained a $50 million verdict on a counterclaim against the largest nonprofit investment manager in the country [Law360 – How They Won It].
