Job Description:
- Serve as Senior Counsel, Payments Commercial for eBay's thriving payments platform and complex financial partnerships
- Draft and negotiate a variety of contracts related to strategic payments partnerships and new financial product offerings
- Provide legal advice on risks, business strategies, and other issues related to commercial transactions
- Work closely with business development, product, and engineering teams to understand eBay's global payments architecture and business strategies
- Drive continuous improvements and scalability in contract negotiation processes
- Provide strategic legal and business advice to maintain long-term relationships with key partners
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
- Possess knowledge of regulatory requirements associated with payments and financial services
- Have a strong interest in alternative payments, emerging payments technology, and the FinTech industry
- Hold a . degree and membership in at least one US state bar
- Have 8+ years of commercial legal experience, including in-house experience with payments matters and/or relevant law firm work
- Be familiar with card networks and their operating rules
- Demonstrate sound legal judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ideally have a combination of law firm and in-house legal department experience
Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on complex, multifaceted agreements related to payments, ecommerce, and other financial services products
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure contracts are completed in a timely manner and meet company objectives and product roadmaps
- Manage high deal volume on deadlines with minimal supervision
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements associated with payments and financial services
- . degree and membership in at least one US state bar
- 8+ years of commercial legal experience, preferably in the FinTech industry
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with partners in the payments and financial services industry
- Technical understanding of the payments and financial ecosystem, especially as relevant to marketplaces
- Experience managing high deal volume on deadlines with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with card networks and their operating rules
- Sound legal judgment and problem-solving skills
- Combination of law firm and in-house legal department experience preferred
