Job Title
Legal Enforcement Attorney

Job Responsibilities
The Legal Enforcement Attorney will serve as a member of the Legal Enforcement Unit within the Fire Department's Bureau of Legal Affairs. The primary responsibilities include:
- Representing the agency in Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH/ECB) proceedings or monitoring these proceedings.
- Reviewing OATH/ECB determinations and preparing and filing appeals.
- Responding to public inquiries and correspondence.
- Assisting in the development and/or implementation of legal enforcement policies and procedures.
- Serving as a liaison with the New York City Law Department in connection with criminal court proceedings.
- Providing legal guidance to agency staff and performing other agency legal work.
- Drafting contracts and agreements.
- Serving as a liaison to the New York City Law Department in connection with litigation.
- Performing other tasks as assigned by the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner/Deputy General Counsel, Director of the General Law Unit, or Director of Enforcement in connection with the Bureau of Legal Affairs.

Education and Experience Information
Minimum Qualifications
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
- Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
- Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

Additional Requirements for Assignment Levels:
- Assignment Level II: One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
- Assignment Level III: Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Preferred Skills
- Excellent legal judgment and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and computer skills.
- Ability to work with and/or supervise non-legal staff.

Salary Information
Salary range: $89, – $132,
