Job Title: Civil Litigation Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
As a Civil Litigation Attorney at the company, you will be part of a team that provides legal representation to the insured clients of the company before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Handling a moderate caseload consisting of cases with moderate to complex exposure, particularly in areas such as automobile negligence, general liability, no-fault Personal Injury Protection (PIP), and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) matters.
- Meeting with claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost-effective manner.
- Developing theories and affirmative defenses to respond to incoming lawsuits.
- Engaging in routine motion practice, discovery, and legal research.
- Conducting trials and arbitrations.
- Periodically presenting to claims partners on new developments in the law.
Education and Experience Information:
To apply for this position, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A minimum of 12 to 15 years of litigation experience, with first chair trial experience considered a plus.
- Admission to the bar and licensed to practice law in the jurisdictions where assigned.
- A valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- The ability to maintain confidentiality.
Desired skills and experience include:
- Proficiency in computer literacy, including MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar.
- Ability to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals, and support staff.
- Strong investigative skills, with the ability to follow up step by step on inquiries or observations.
- Demonstrated ability in legal research, locating cases, treaties, codified laws, and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law.
