- Seeking a Paralegal to join the Consumer Debt & Bankruptcy team and help expand access to justice

Responsibilities:

- Screen litigants for bankruptcy process and consumer issues
- Assist Pro Bono attorneys with litigants
- Prepare legal documents and support attorneys at legal clinics
- Input and track data for grant reporting purposes
- Maintain client and referral database
- Travel to various locations throughout Los Angeles County may be required
- Staff a self-help center at least one day per week, potentially more

Requirements:

- Knowledge of Consumer and Bankruptcy legal process
- Experience working with low-income individuals and families
- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or other language preferred
- Passion for supporting people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and handle difficult situations with sensitivity and patience

Qualifications:

- Paralegal certificate or 1 year of experience in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
