Job Title: Tax Managing Director, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Managing Director, Partnerships is entrusted with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, specifically concerning partnership taxation matters. These include, but are not limited to, section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role involves:
- Maintaining and developing a comprehensive understanding of technical and practical issues related to partnership taxation.
- Organizing and conducting effective external CPE training sessions annually, involving company specialists.
- Training and mentoring associates, senior associates, and managers.
- Providing oversight and review of partnership capital account maintenance and relevant computational services.
In the realm of research, the Tax Managing Director identifies when research is necessary, frames issues for investigation, and reports analyses clearly and concisely. They train associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and involve company specialists as needed.
In tax consulting, the role involves developing, recommending, and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes. The director applies a combination of tax and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions and manage client relationships and expectations.
For strategy development, the Tax Managing Director introduces and develops new strategies to improve client, company, or personnel positions by reducing taxes or expenses. They research and implement tax strategies, make suggestions for improvement, lead marketing campaigns if applicable, and present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
Supervisory responsibilities include supervising associates, senior associates, and managers on all projects, reviewing their work, and providing feedback. The director also trains these team members on software tools, acts as a career advisor, schedules and manages workloads, and contributes to performance evaluations.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics. A Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services is required.
- Specialized partnership experience and prior supervisory experience are required. Experience in private equity at both fund and portfolio company levels is preferred.
- Experience with Up-C tax receivable agreements is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- A CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is required. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software:
- Experience with tax research tools such as CCH Wolters Kluwer, Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, and BNA is preferred.
- Experience with systems such as Oracle, Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE, Longview, Corptax, or GoSystems is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred.
