Job Title: Principal Court Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
Principal Court Attorneys serve in a confidential capacity and are responsible for overseeing the operations of special parts, terms, or departments in courts with a service population exceeding 400,000. The duties include assisting the Chief Court Attorney or Supervising Court Attorney in the formulation and implementation of office policy, supervision, and administering the operations of a law department. The role involves researching and analyzing complex legal issues and questions for the court, and they may be designated to act as special referees and perform other related duties. Specific assignments in Bronx County Supreme, Civil Term, may include managing and expediting prioritized legal matters, fulfilling weekly reporting mandates, case tracking, and maintaining databases related to these priority matters. Principal Court Attorneys are responsible for researching and analyzing complex legal issues, drafting opinions and orders for individual judges, conferencing with assistant district attorneys and defense attorneys towards resolution or trial of prioritized matters, and assisting Judges as directed by the Administrative Judge or the Chief Clerk. The position requires troubleshooting and critical thinking to address all obstacles preventing cases from moving judiciously to comply with OCA standards and goals.

Education and Experience Information:

- Three (3) years of service in the Associate Court Attorney title; or Eight (8) years of relevant legal experience gained after admission to the New York State Bar.

Salary Information:
The base salary for the Principal Court Attorney position is $130,061, with an additional $4,920 location pay.
