**Job Title**: Corporate Counsel, Payments Legal
**Job Responsibilities**:
The Corporate Counsel for Payments Legal at Amazon is expected to engage in a variety of responsibilities crucial to the support and growth of the company's payments businesses. The role primarily involves:
- Advising the Amazon Payments business teams on product and service launches, ensuring compliance with regulatory issues, and guiding commercial and compliance initiatives within the payments and financial services sectors.
- Developing innovative solutions to novel legal questions that arise in the course of business.
- Covering a wide range of legal issues, including the development of new programs in regulated areas, product counseling, and providing day-to-day legal advice.
- Engaging in strategic contract and partnership negotiations, and resolving issues that occur in commercial relationships.
- Structuring, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements related to both domestic and international payment and credit/lending products.
- Providing ongoing legal counseling on a broad array of matters.
**Education and Experience Information**:
- A Juris Doctor degree and active membership in at least one state bar or an equivalent legal qualification are mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 years of legal experience is required for this position.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Experience working in a combination of corporate law firm settings and in-house legal environments.
- Prior experience advising on regulatory and compliance matters specifically related to payments or credit/lending products is highly desirable.
- Experience in engaging with regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing to and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- The candidate should be a team player and a consensus builder capable of effectively collaborating and building relationships with attorneys and business leaders across the organization.
**Salary Information**:
The compensation for the Corporate Counsel position reflects the cost of labor in various . geographic markets. The base salary ranges from $138,500 per year in the lowest geographic market to $229,000 per year in the highest geographic market. The salary is determined by several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Beyond the base salary, Amazon offers a comprehensive total compensation package that may include equity, sign-on payments, and other compensation forms.
