Job Title: Tax Managing Director, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Managing Director, Partnerships is tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, particularly in the realm of partnership-specific issues. These include section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role involves understanding potential partnership taxation issues and assisting in the preparation of partnership-specific computations. The director is a key member of the leadership team within the department, participating actively in marketing and business development. Furthermore, the director is responsible for initiating process improvements, fostering team-building initiatives, maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to team members.
Specific duties include:
- Maintaining and developing an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues.
- Organizing and conducting effective external CPE training sessions in the area of specialization.
- Training and mentoring associates, senior associates, and managers.
- Oversight and review of partnership capital account maintenance and relevant computational services.
- Identifying research needs, framing issues for research, and reporting analyses.
- Training staff on research skills and framing tax issues for analysis.
- Developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes.
- Applying tax knowledge and industry knowledge to recommend solutions and implementing firm strategies.
- Managing client relationships and expectations.
- Introducing and developing new ideas to improve the firm's position, such as reducing taxes or providing non-tax benefits.
- Researching and implementing tax strategies and making suggestions for improvements in work products or approaches.
- Leading marketing campaigns if applicable.
- Presenting complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
- Supervising associates, senior associates, and managers on projects.
- Reviewing work prepared by team members and providing feedback.
- Training team members on current software tools.
- Acting as a career advisor to team members.
- Scheduling and managing the workload of team members.
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback to team members.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- A Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services is required.
- Specialized partnership experience is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.
- Experience with private equity, both at the fund and portfolio company levels, is preferred.
- Prior experience with Up-C tax receivable agreements is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) is required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software:
- Experience with tax research tools such as CCH Wolters Kluwer, Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, and BNA is preferred.
- Experience with systems such as Oracle, Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE, Longview, Corptax, or GoSystems is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred.
